Hard Processes and Perturbative Qcd Results from Cdf

We present results on the inclusive jet cross section at p s = 1800 GeV and 630 GeV, the two-jet cross section, multijet physics and the multijet diierential cross section from the CDF experiment at the Fermilab Tevatron Collider.

Soft and Hard Qcd *

I review various theoretical questions that arise from data from HERA and the Tevatron, and which are relevant for the LHC. They range from soft physics, such as the total cross section, to hard physics, such as Higgs production. In particular, I argue that the proton's gluon density is somewhat larger at small x than is currently accepted.

Perturbative QCD calculations of total cross sections and decay widths in hard inclusive processes

Perturbative QCD calculations of total cross sections and decay widths in hard inclusive processes A summary of the current understanding of methods of analytical higher order perturbative computations of total cross sections and decay widths in Quantum Chromodynamics is presented. As examples, the quantities σ tot (e + e − → hadrons), Γ(τ − → ν τ + hadrons) and Γ(H → hadrons) up to O(α 2 s) an...

Hard Processes on Nuclear Targets in Qcd

We calculate the A-dependence of open charm and beauty as well as DrellYan pair production cross sections on nuclear targets taking into account the difference of quark and gluon distributions in free and bound nucleons. The results are presented for both proton-nucleus and nucleus-nucleus collisions. For the case of heavy flavour production at comparatively low energies, if σ ∼ Aα, the values ...

Perturbative Qcd Corrections to the Soft Pomeron ∗

We study the interface between soft and hard QCD at high energy and small momentum transfer. At LHC and SSC energies, we find that a cutoff BFKL equation leads one to expect a measurable perturbative component in traditionally soft processes. We show that the total cross section could become as large as 175 mb (122 mb) and the ρ parameter 0.40 (0.25) at the SSC (LHC).
